Delhi Weather Alert: 6-Day Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are set to experience a significant weather shift starting today, May 1, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, forecasting a series of heavy rains and thunderstorms over the next six days. This weather change is expected to provide much-needed relief from the recent heatwave, with temperatures anticipated to drop.
Weather Forecast and Alerts
According to the IMD, the period from May 1 to May 3 will see strong dusty winds across the NCR, with speeds reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour. These conditions are likely to commence after noon, intensifying by evening with the onset of rain showers. From May 4 to May 6, light to moderate rain is expected to continue intermittently, accompanied by fluctuations in temperature. Residents are advised to exercise caution during this period.
Safety Precautions During Storms
The IMD has issued safety guidelines for the public during the upcoming storms:
-
Avoid standing in open areas during dusty winds, especially near tin roofs and trees.
-
Stay indoors during thunderstorms to minimize the risk of lightning strikes.
-
Limit unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
Current Weather Conditions and Air Quality
As of today, Delhi’s maximum temperature is recorded at 36°C, with a minimum of 25°C. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached a very poor level of 241, indicating significant air pollution. In contrast, Noida’s AQI remains in the satisfactory category at 126, with temperatures slightly higher at 37°C. Ghaziabad and Gurugram report similar temperatures, with AQI levels in the moderate range at 154.
Anticipated Relief from Heat
The upcoming rains are expected to bring a welcome respite from the intense heat experienced in recent days. The combination of rainfall and cooler temperatures will likely improve air quality and provide a more comfortable environment for residents across Delhi-NCR.
